Happy birthday to Olga Mikhailovna Konkina

Abstract

On August 11, 2019, O.M. Konkina, PhD, Head of precious metal, nickel and cobalt deposit laboratory (a unit of mineral base analysis and monitoring department), celebrated her 75^th anniversary.

O.M. Konkina started working in TsNIGRI in 1968 after graduating from the geological faculty of M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University. At first, she worked as an engineerm then she continued her work as a junior researcher of mineralogy department, a unit of nickel deposit sector headed by M.N. Godlevsky. In 1978, she supported a PhD thesis.

O.M. Konkina is an expert in geology, as well as nickel and platinum-group metal deposit forecasting and prospecting. For many years, she has studied Ni magmatism of Norilsk and Karelian-Kola regions, and PGM distribution patterns and modes of occurrence in Cu-Ni deposits. She was among the authors of a manual on estimating Ni, Pt and Pd deposit resources and geological prospecting models, and forecast maps of the Russian Ni and Pt potential (1:5,000,000 scale). Her research activities are focused on Cu, Ni and PGM mineral base monitoring, regional licensing program expertise, Ni and PGM exploration scientific and methodical support, and annual exploration program planning. She is an expert in Ni and PGM resource estimation. In her scientific and practical work, she deals with various problems in great detail; her study results are reflected in numerous publications and reports at diverse meetings and conferences. For successful and active participation in the institute activities, O.M. Konkina was awarded rewards by Rosnedra and the Russian Geological Society.
