Abstract

Copper production plays a leading role in the Russian non-ferrous metals industry, driven by widespread industrial application of copper products and high export potential of the metal, a potential set to grow amidst China’s environmental policies and the expansion of electric transport. The interest in the non-ferrous metals market is expected to rise, given China’s move to cut production capacity for copper and copper alloys in favor of stabilizing its environmental situation, alongside the booming market for electric vehicles and electric aircraft. It is reasonable to anticipate that the Russian non-ferrous metals industry has the potential to achieve global leadership in the new markets for its alloys and other non-ferrous metal products. This article analyzes the demand for copper in both Russian and global industry, as well as the metal's price behavior during the geopolitical crisis.
